Jeepney Blues (or, Sucking Jeepney Rides v. 2)

January 9, 2008. Another day neared to a close as I walked towards the jeepney terminal in Monumento. I was hoping for a quiet ride so I can enjoy music with my mp3 player. But my hopes were miserably shattered as I boarded the jeepney.

Even though I like pop divas like Whitney Houston, I hated her during my trip home. The sound from the speakers of the jeep pumped and almost shattered my eardrums since the high and low levels (in equalizing sound, right? Sound techs/engineers know this) were pumped up. It's like I really wanted to tell the driver, "[Please,] can you turn that freakin' thing off?!" (in reference to American Dreamz). From Monumento to Polo,
I was plugging my ears with my fingers yet this was not enough to lessen the sickening feeling.

I totally respect jeepney drivers since they are the ones who are in charge of the jeep yet I definitely think that they should also be responsible to give their riders a comfortable ride home. We are availing their services by paying the fare. I paid my fare as soon I sat on that part of the long bench and I do expect something from the driver, not just fulfilling the duty of taking me home safely. Also, riders must have a choice of a noisy or a quiet ride. Not everyone wants to be wide awake when riding the jeep.

I do hope that someday drivers would think of the welfare, comfort and satisfaction of their riding public. We are their customers and we also deserve quality service.
